Presentation SMIK
Sancta Maria Institute (SMIK) is a private subsidized, mixed, catholic school in Kasterlee for around 325 pupils aged between 12 and 19.  It is a small school in a lovely green environment that attracts pupils from primary schools in the area.  SMIK offers education to all levels of ability: general (economy, maths, sciences) technical (technics-sciences) and vocational (office management) education.

SMIK was founded in 1947. Since 1999 SMIK has become part of KOGEKA, a larger group of schools located in Geel,  10 km from Kasterlee.

One of SMIK's aims is to encourage all pupils to make the best of themselves and work hard to be successful. Teachers challenge and support pupils to do their best to give them a firm foundation to go into higher education, which most boys and girls at SMIK do.

Education however is more than just academic results. Being a small school we consider it a priority to make each and every pupil feel welcome, happy and at ease in our school.  We put a lot of effort in guidance and support for pupils to develop in a caring and secure environment.  And this shows, our pupils are friendly, enthusiastic and always in for all kinds of school activities.

We also aim to provide a mixture of extra curricular activities. Theatre trips, art excursions, film projects, sports and foreign exchanges are organised to develop each child’s unique skills and qualities.  Pupils are also involved in decisions about life at school by creating a school council. Representatives from each form help us to make decisions about school life.

In the last couple of years we have extended the range of study directions and considerable resources have been put into improving accommodation and facilities especially for sciences, this to achieve more progress and success in the future.
